Oversized vs Regular Fit T-Shirts: Which One Should You Buy?

People often assume an oversized t-shirt is just a regular tee bought a size or two up. It is a different garment: a different pattern, usually a different fabric weight, and a different look when worn.

The cut

A regular fit follows the natural shoulder line. The seam sits at the edge of your shoulder, the body tapers slightly, and length ends around the middle of the hip. It reads clean and conventional.

An oversized fit drops the shoulder seam down the upper arm on purpose, widens the body and adds length. The silhouette is boxy and the sleeves land lower. That relaxed line is the whole point of the design.

The fabric

This is the part most comparisons miss. A regular tee works well at around 180 GSM. An oversized tee needs more weight — around 220 GSM — because there is more unsupported fabric hanging from the shoulder. Put an oversized pattern in thin fabric and it drapes limply instead of falling straight.

Which suits you

  • Pick regular fit if you want something that layers cleanly under a shirt or jacket, or you prefer a defined shoulder line.
  • Pick oversized if you want the streetwear silhouette, want more room through the chest and midsection, or plan to wear it with wide-leg or cargo trousers.
  • Slimmer build? Oversized works, but stay at your true size — going further up turns relaxed into shapeless.
  • Broader build? Oversized is often more comfortable than a regular tee sized up, because the extra room is patterned in rather than stretched across.

On sizing

Take your normal size in both. In a regular fit that gives you the intended clean cut; in an oversized fit it gives you the intended relaxed cut. Both of our size charts list chest, length, shoulder and sleeve, so the safest move is to measure a t-shirt you already like and compare.

Still deciding? Our regular-fit tees are 180 GSM and our oversized tees are 220 GSM, and both come in sizes S to XXL with a 7-day return window on unworn items.
